Many of our experiments with spatial forms seek an aesthetics which goes beyond design for design's sake. Several of the experimental studies shown here can be understood as a part of a continuous research into an aesthetics which expresses a specific cultural activity (in many cases invented), full of playfulness, irony and provocation. The choice of the materials, which are usually of a 'cheap' nature (use of pop art and consumer materials), communicates a fragile aesthetics which stimulates activation rather than consumerism. The notion of play also refers to a not wholly rational way of thinking. We can speak of a certain friction between the way the tectonics and the skin are manfactured and how they speak to us. The technology is not invented to communicate a certain neopositive result as rationally and quickly as possible. Rather, the tectonics and skins incorporate a certain level of malfunction and by doing so the technology question its own premises.
